Remarks
Originally described as Strophomena setigera by Hall in 1843. Recombined as Chonetes setigera by Hall in (Tenth Report on the State Cabinet, no year provided, between 1843 and 1867?). Tentatively recombined as Hallinetes setigerus by in Racheboeuf and Feldman in 1990, but in a different French-language publication the same year, these authors tentatively place Chonetes setigera as having affinity to the genus Striatochonetes, as named by Mikrjukov in 1968, pending further study. It is unclear whether this further study has taken place.
From Wilson (2014, p. 103): “Semioval shell; hinge line equal to shell width. Pedicle valve very convex; brachial valve concave. Two to three cardinal spines on each side, slightly oblique to the hinge line. To 10-20 mm.”
