Remarks
Originally described as Rhynchonella sappho by Hall in 1860. Recombined as Camarotoechia sappho by Whiteaves in 1898. Recombined as Cupularostrum sappho by Griesemer in 1965. Recombined as Sapphicorhynchus sappho by Sartenaer in 2007.
From Wilson (2014, p. 104) (as Culuplorostrum sappho): “Robust shell, broader than high. Pedicle valve shallowly convex, depressed toward margin, with beak turned inward. Brachial valve more convex, with fold obvious only near front margin. To 15-30 mm.”
From Carlton Brett and Gordon Baird: “A robust shelled rhynchonellid that occurs sporadically throughout the Hamilton Group and perhaps the Eifelian Onondaga Formation. It is particularly noted in the Stafford Member of the Skaneateles Formation in western New York.”
