Remarks
Originally described as Strophodonta junia by Hall in 1867. The genus Mesoleptostrophia was named by Harper and Boucot in 1978, but it is unclear when and by whom Strophodonta junia was added to it.
From Wilson (2014, p. 99): “Medium-sized to large shell; pedicle valve slightly convex (compare to Megastrophia concava). Surface with distinct striae with finer striae between; fine concentric growth lines. To 80mm.”
From Carlton Brett and Gordon Baird: “This large and rather flat strophomenid is typical of calcareous mudstone facies and argillaceous limestones with rather high diversity assemblages. Although seemingly descended from EAR ancestors it does not appear commonly below the Moscow Formation it is particularly typical of the higher Windom and Garrattsville members, in diverse brachiopod biofacies.”
