Remarks

Originally described as Rhynchonella congregata by Conrad in 1841. Recombined as Camarotoechia congregata by Butts in 1941. Recombined as Cupularostrum congregata by Griesmer in 1965.

From Wilson (2014, p. 104) (as *Camarotoechia congregata): “Very robust, medium-sized shell, with margin opposite the hinge straight to slightly curved. Moderately large fold and sinus, with conspicuous plications.”

From Carl Brett: This brachiopod occurs in high density clusters, commonly as moldic specimens on bedding planes in nearshore siliciclastic facies where it may be one of the only brachiopods in facies transitional to marginal marine facies, for example in flagstones of the Ashokan Formation in eastern New York. In some similar facies in central New York it co-occurs with large Allanella tullia. These pedically attached brachiopods also occur in some more offshore shallow mudstone facies; for example, in situ perhaps mutually attached clumps occur in concretionary mudstones in the Moscow Formation (e.g., Taunton Submember of Windom Member).
