Remarks

From Wilson (2014, p. 102-103) (as Devonochonetes scitulus): “Small, semioval shell, with numerous striae. Each side with up to 6 cardinal spines, curving abruptly outward.” (pg. 102-103).

Originally described as Chonetes scitula by Hall, 1857. Recombined as Chonetes scitulus by Prosser and Kindle, 1913. Recombined as Devonochonetes scitulus by Kesling and Chilman, 1975. Recombined as Arcuaminetes scitulus by Bizzaro, 1995, although some sources still use Devonochonetes.

From Carl Brett: Arcuaminetes is a widespread small free resting, quasi-infaunal brachiopod typically associated with Ambocoelia and other small chonetid brachiopods in offshore medium-dark shale facies inferred to be dysoxic, soft mud bottoms. A key component of Givetian examples of the Ambocoelia-Chonetid biofacies of Brett et al. (2007). In some cases A. scitulus is part of paucispecific, high density assemblages on bedding planes forming a major component of the Chonetid-nuculid association of Brett et al. (2007) typical of more proximal silty gray mudstones. Arcuaminetes scitulus tends to become highly dominant as ambocoeliids decrease. It was also a soft mud generalist found in low diversity, mid-to-outer shelf Hamilton deposits. Found in association with Zoophycos, the partly submerged coral Stereolasma, small Pleurodictyum, and Mucrospirifer.
